Harvard University

Harvard University is located in Boston, Massachusetts. Here are links to general information about Harvard's doctoral business programs and to its accounting Ph.D. program.

The Accounting Program

Harvard's doctoral accounting program, leading to a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), draws on economic, behavioral, and administrative theory to focus on the firm and its management. Through a combination of discipline- and field-based methods, the curriculum enables students to master concepts and research skills directly relevant to business problems. Candidates must come to understand the point of view of practicing managers and be able to bring theory and careful research to bear in illuminating important business problems.

Harvard typically offers a full fellowship, which includes tuition, single student health fees, and a 12 month stipend. The fellowship is renewable for up to five years. This fellowship comes with no strings attached. There is no minimum RA or TA work required for the fellowship. In addition, students are also provided a laptop and a individual research budget. HBS students will often take advantage of the open enrollment opportunity between Harvard and MIT enabling students to benefit from two of the top economic departments in the world.

The Baker Library is one of the unique resources available to HBS students. Harvard Business School has access to hundreds of HBS and Harvard University licensed databases. These resources provide access to business news and journals, as well as highly specialized content on an extensive range of business topics and research disciplines.

Living Conditions

Students may find Boston expensive, as the cost of living in Boston is approximately 27% above the national average. Because the Greater Boston area is home to several colleges, universities, and other schools of higher education, there are countless opportunities outside the classroom to experience new things.

LDS Church Information

There is a fantastic LDSSA community at Harvard. Though there are few LDS accounting students, there are several LDS members in the DBA program (~2 each year), in the MBA program (~20 each year), and on the faculty at HBS. Most LDS student families live at Soldiers Field Park (SFP) on campus. There is a temple in Boston.
