Aren't most professor salaries based on a nine-month contract?  It may be useful to mention that where the article mentions base contracts.  It would certainly provide useful context for the 2/9 summer funding.

Not sure why you deleted the $175,000. I'm willing to delete if for a good reason, but it seems like providing an idea where the top is at is a good idea. I don't use more specific language because the people earning those types of salaries may not want to be identified. Daw44 20:40, 25 July 2008 (MDT)

I deleted the $175,000 sentence for a couple reasons. 1) Including it, and then discussing the whole summer funds issue, and then coming to a final number is somewhat confusing. Just the final number is clearer. 2) Every time I read "some schools are purportedly paying" it makes me feel like I am gathered around a campfire to hear tales of excitement and thrills. "This is the latest rumor on salaries, folks, come and hear." The fact is, we know specific individuals who are receiving these "purported amounts", and so they are no longer "reputed or claimed", but verifiable. Anyways. They are my silly reasons for taking it off and they are more a product of my wandering around the site with nothing to do. I won’t meddle any more. But, those were my reasons. Cheers.--Jlamro 23:00, 31 July 2008 (MDT)

I tried to clear it up a little to deal with point 1, I'm sympathetic to point 2, but just not sure what else to do. I think it is nice to provide the upper bound, but a lot of people don't like their specific salary posted. As for not having anything to do, what about trying to answer some of the Ph.D. prep type questions? We still have a lot of content that we need to build. Daw44 07:15, 1 August 2008 (MDT)
