List questions you have, information you want, or other things that we should put on the website on this page.

  • Often, people perceive academia as not being very financial rewarding. When us pre-PhD students tell people our career plans, they say things to this effect. Sites like http://www.utahsright.com/salaries.php?city=u_of_u for different states would be helpful, where we can show people potential salaries of accounting professors.
  • I would love to hear anything anybody would be willing to share about the recruiting process. That is, what generally happens while visiting a potential program? Also, what expenses should I expect the program to cover and what expenses will I need to cover? Please provide any information relating to this topic on the following page: What should I expect when I visit a campus?
  • I would love to hear about the process of going on the job market. How should I decide where to send my packet? How do programs decide who to interview? What are my chance of getting an offer if I am asked to interview? When is appropriate to turn down an interview? When is it not appropriate to not turn down an interview? Please provide any information relating to this topic on the following page: Now that I have a Ph.D., how do I get a J.O.B.?
  • I would like to see a discussion about the review process. How do you decide where to submit a paper? How long does it usually take? What is expected of me when I am asked to review a paper? Is is appropriate to try to figure out who the authors are? Can I ask for the help of others? At what point in the process is it appropriate to reveal your identity as the reviewer to the author(s)?
